What is best, going with bi-focals or progressives? Eyes are getting weak, and after reading glasses it's now time for bi-focals or progressives.

Comments?

Go with progressives. They take a little getting used to but once you get it figured out you shouldn't have any problem. I had trifocal progressives and have since changed to bifocal progressives. I like the bifocals better but your eyes might be different. Regular bifocals have a distinct change in focus and they can be a real ##### trying to stay focused on the target.

I shot with bifocals for years. There was a small magnifier at the bottom of the lens that I used for close up. The rest of the lens was for distance. Worked fine. Oddly enough, my day to day glasses were progressives. This last go round on shooting glasses I changed to progressives and they have worked fine too. The main thing I had to watch out for was making sure that the lens was positioned correctly in relation to my eye for shooting.

I took to shooting with single prescription contacts - Can't read anything up close but it stopped me (or at least reduced) from looking at the bead. Still can't shoot worth Sh*t though

When the army as updating my prescription inserts for my issued safety glasses, they came to the same conclusion as my civi eye doctor: my astygmatism is too much to be corrected by the inserts. So they cut me perscription bifocals. I tried them exactly once for shooting and then paid out of my own pocket to have the lenses changed to progressives. With the friggen bifocals I could see my elbows and I could see the targets but I couldn't see the front sights. I couldn't even read the speedometer in my car with the bifocals. Your eyes may be different but I would insist on the progressives.
