I know there are reviews on line for some of the blinds, but I would have more faith in the shared experiences of other CGNers who have used ground blinds. Any comments which might help me stay away from shoddy products, and direct me to something useful and sturdy would be appreciated ... or is it merely a matter of "you get what you pay for"?

I used a Ridge Hunter Terra spring blind for turkey this year and it was great. I didnt want to carry around anything big or heavy because I usually already have my hands full. I found this blind to be perfect for my needs. Its a spring steel type of set up, so putting it together is literally a snap. You pull it out of the bag and it literally pops open on its own. The only thing you need to do is anchor it in the ground and put up the roof supports. It only weighs like 10lbs and fit perfectly into my decoy bag. Its big enough to comfortable fit 2 people, yet small enough that you can put it just about anywhere. The best part is that it was only $80 at bass pro. I used it for a whole season, and didnt have issues with any of the zippers or the such.

I like the Ameristep doghouse blind. Simple to setup and take down also quite resilient. In my haste to get out of the bush this past spring after 4 days of bear hunting/trapping I forgot to grab my blind. Well two and half months later I go back up to the line and remember the blind. A tree had fallen on it and must have just clipped the edge of it or something since it was just folded up pinned between the fallen tree and a log on the ground. Blind is fine with no tears or fading. Just happy I wasn't in the thing when that tree came down.

Check out the Altan den. I have had two for a couple of years now. Reasonably priced and lots of room, big enough for two with a bow ... but I guess it depends on what you are using it for?

Another vote for the Ameristep Dog House blind. My original is about 6 years old and is still going strong with no issues. I bought two more last fall when Cabelas had them on sale. I hunt on my own property and leave them set up all fall in various locations. Very easy and fast to set up. Lots of room inside for one person and a chair. Shed the rain very well.

I had the ameristep doghouse, liked it, but not for me. I currently have an ameristep man cave and love it. They say it's a 4 man blind, but me and my wife or other hunting partner whoever it may be at the moment can sit real comfy in chairs, with a heater and some other gear in there as well without any issues. It's also nice and tall to get up and stretch in, I'm 6'1" and am able to stand up easily.

Yet another vote for the Ameristep Dog House. Love mine. Lightweight, easy to set up and take down, durable, effective.

As noted, not the best for multiple, large people.

I had the ameristep dog house but it ripped pretty easy after one year of use and found it small for my crossbow and any long barreled guns. The price was the selling point though and for the price might buy one again. I got a ground max off Kijiji though and its quality is 10x better and I find it easier to move in. I might consider another one or the deluxe model if I want to hunt 2-3 guys in the blind. I'm a large guy though so size problems might not be the same for most.

Here's another vote for the Dog House. It's done everything I've asked it to. I'm actually on my second, as my first one was stolen by some prick... which brings up one of it's best features, the price - if some a$$hole does steal it, you're only out a hundred bucks.

It's plenty big for one adult, can fit two in a pinch, more than enough for me and one of my kids.
