Gonna be driving from Van to Seattle this long weekend. Are there any good gun shops to check out on the way, and what are my limitations and what's legal to bring back to Canada? I'll just be buying parts/accessories like a cheek riser for my m14 and lookin for the Vortex Strikefire. Many thanks!

US restrictions limit or prohibit the sale and export of most firearms, firearms parts, optics and ammunition to Canada and to Canadian citizens travelling back to Canada. Many firearms accessories, especially the more tactical type are also lumped in.

I know because I tried for several weeks to have a rifle scope shipped to me to save $500, and no online site would do it. They were even wise to having it shipped to just across the border and me pick it up.

As for shopping at a physical gun store, it depends if they ask you for ID before you buy something. They will likely not sell you any of the above mentioned items if they know you are exporting them to Canada, as they are breaking federal law by doing so.

YOU are also breaking US law, but not Canadian law. So, it comes down to whether or not you want to break US law, and potentially face the consequences if caught...how you would be caught I don't know.

There are many threads here on CGN and other forums on importing things from the US. As long as you make yourself aware then you can make your own decision. I for one have given up on the prospect of buying things for half the price in the states.

"...for my M14..." Hi. You don't have an M14. Don't even mention one, Stateside, or at the border. Real M14's are prohibited, semi-auto or otherwise, here. Class 3 firearms, Stateside and parts(including milsurp stocks) are restricted for export by U.S. Federal law.
M1A's and Norinco's are not. Nor are their parts. As daft as it sounds, a milsurp cheek rest(that you won't find anyway) can't come back. Commercial versions, made for the M1A, can. Don't try to figure out why. It'll give you a raging headache.
Scopes and optics, of any kind, are also restricted for export, as well. As are reloading components, but not reloading equipment. There's a whole slew of other stuff too.
Lots of places in Vancouver, if that's considered the 'Lower Mainland', sell Vortex kit. (Everywhere is 'mainland' here.) http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/dealers
Make sure you buy the right mount too.
