I'm noticing a trend with some members getting short barrels threaded for chokes. Will adding a different choke make that much of a difference on such a short barrel?
...always thought chokes were a hunting thing....
Thanks for taking the time.....

As noted, barrel length does not have an impact on whether on not chokes will 'make a difference'.

Most guys (well, I do) find 'cylinder' or even IC bore a little too open, since we're not using them for defense 99% of the time. Blasting vegetables with a full choke is more fun. ;)

Not all barrels can be threaded... or can they? anyone have more knowledge about this? I'd like to get my shotguns threaded.

Also, I've read somewhere (probably CGN), that it's not recommended to install more than a full choke if you're going to be shooting slugs out of your shotgun, true?false?

full choke is the mostest choke. Don't do slugs through any choke. You can, because the slugs are designed to deform to make it safely but it's not something you do on purpose.

some barrels are a little too thin to thread. Some chinese are marginal, because some can be a little out of round and when combined with how thin they are it's a no go. . Dlask and Rem are no problem

slugs have been shot out of full choked guns for years. as for the effect of a short barrel on patterns i can not say, but i do have a modified choke in a 12.5 inch dlask barrel and it seems to pattern a bit more open than a longer barreled gun using the same choke and ammunition .whether this is due to the length of barrel or not is a subject that would need some study . i would think you could draw no firm conclusions as it has been my experience that even identical guns will pattern differently using the same choke and ammunition . as i read somewhere it is twenty per cent choke and eighty per cent black magic as to the results you will get out of a particular choke, barrel, and ammo combination .

Being able to hit your target at more then 10 feet is a good reason.
as for chokes my benelli m2 shot slugs the best with a mod choke
If you dont havea heavy profile barrle you may needto look at thin wall choke tubes.
the other thing is have your smith make sure the bore is centered, this can be fixed, when drilling for choke tubes, but if its off center can be an issue with a thin barrle.

I don't know how much it costs for chokes and to thread a barrel but for ~$200 you can get The Vang Comp System done.
I personally don't like having to handle attachments, etc. Besides, it's a short bbl SG for a reason...why add length to it?

Well you've gotta stay versatile... 10" barrel for trap shooting FTW!!!
