Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a manufacturer making beefy looking “short” .22LR revolvers? I know Ruger makes the SP101, but it looks kind of dinky. By that, I mean it LOOKS like a .22 revolver (mostly just the barrel).

The S&W 617 is real nice looking, but their 4” model is just slightly short, making it prohib.

Are there other guns out there that I might have missed?

I see Alfa Proj has a few, but their barrel lengths vary on the ~4” models between 98-102mm - again, prohib.

Are there really that few ~4” revolvers in .22LR for the Canadian market?

I was going to post this in the pistols/revolver forum, but I figured it would be better posted here. Mods, feel free to move it if you see fit.

Thanks!

I've owned a stainless Ruger Single Six with both the 22lr and 22mag cylinder combo. They are really nice revolvers. Single action though. Probably not quite what your looking for, but they might be something to look in to...

I guess I should mention that I’m looking for double action. I like the Colt SAA revolvers, but I prefer DA for .22

I have heard a lot of great things about the Ruger Single Six though!

Is the Charter Arms revolver too diminutive for your taste ?
The laws placing 4" barrels in the prohib class really knocked a lot of options off the table. I have a 4" Sentinel that I like for its size, feel, and fun factor but my 6" model 17-3 is first class in every respect and would be the last to go if choices had to be made.

The Pathfinder 4.2” model is pretty nice! That’s definitely going to be an option for me. Thanks!

Well, I kind of like the look of the Charter revolvers. I would really advise trying one out if possible, there seem to be mixed reviews out there.

I was curious enough to look at a sponsor's site. They describe the gun as 8 shot, the picture is a 6 shot revolver. Keep your eyes open but I think it is certainly worth a look.
Good luck.

The Alfa-Proj 4.5" (steel, blued) worked well for me, but I eventually found a S&W 63-4 (5" bbl). If you can find a 63-4, I'd recommend it any day.

As you can see they are very comparable in dimensions and weight, and the AlfaProj is actually slightly heavier than the Ruger when both have their factory grips installed.
The AlfaProj has a fairly heavy trigger in double action but nothing you can't get used to, is much lighter in single action, and is quite accurate.
They are both quite 'beefy' in looks and heft..
