Just out of curiosity, what is the shortest 870 that will fit a Surefire led fore-end? It doesn't look like it will fit on an 8.5" Dlask (I could be wrong), but will it fit a 12.5"? I would love to fit it to an 8.5" even if I have to modify (trim). Anyone know?

I have been told, though I don't know for sure, that a 14" is best for this. That way there aren't leftover powder burns and marks on the top of the flashlight. Can anyone confirm this? If not than a 12.5 would would work for sure.

I've had a SureFire 618FA on a 14" 870 and the flashlight portion does stick out past the end of the barrel so unless you use the A2 plug while practice shooting, you will be cleaning powder residue off of the flashlight housing.

A 12.5" barrel will fit onto any standard 870 (or clone) receiver without modification to either the receiver or the barrel. If you want to know if Dlask sells them, your best bet is to check the Dlask website.

Dlask barrels fit although they are pricey. The surefire forend is flush on a 14 inch barrel. It will stick out a couple of inches on a 12 1/2, but it is 2-3 inches below the barrel so you may or may not get powder burns. It does however make the gun seem out of balance with the light sticking out in front of the muzzle like that and kind of ruins the whole point of a shorter barrel= shorter gun.

That is pretty much what I'm looking for. I have a Fabarm 14" but can't fit a Knoxx stock without that goofy spacer, and I have a Surefire M900 light on the fore-end rail, but it SMASHES my support hand with every shot. Looks like I want a 14" 870. Geologist, is that a +1 extension on your gun?

14" Dlask on mine. As was stated earlier if you don't use a plug when firing you will get a large amount of powder residue on the lens. It can be a B*tch to get off.

Have you considered something other than the Surefire forend? Something a little smaller/brighter, maybe?

The forends will take a drop-in Cree LED for up to 300 lumens, compared to 110 lumens for the X300. The Cree is the best $20 you can spend.

300 lumens is a bit overkill, given that the 110 lumens from the X300 is significantly bright enough to do what 99% of people need. Not to mention battery life would be drastically decreased from upgrading to 300 lumens.

Besides, you are still stuck with a ridiculously huge forend/light.

Too much bright light indoors can be blinding for the shooter. 110 lumens or so is all you need indoors and I prefer same.

P12, what light and fore-end is that you have? It looks like is has rails all the way around. Is that still comfortable to shoot or do you put rail covers on? pazzo, is the x300 easy to activate with your off hand thumb (assuming that's how you do it)? I will mostly be using the light outside (think sleeping in the tent with me)
