Short action magnum bolt face

Well going to ask my derail question again. Considering others are talking calibers......riddle me this.

Tiny coastal black tail.....60 lbs on meat hooks. Zero predators.
Typically 30 yards in the Salal.....perhaps 100 over a pond
Rifles going to take a beating....no $1300 shiny Browning 92 need apply
Stainless a plus....very wet/marine

What rifle am I describing?

My .22 Cooey 39 which has taken most deer for me over the 50+ years I used 'er. A tame deer that ye sucked into getting hand fed with apples be easy
bonkin with a roofing hammer as well ;)

Nice black tail bucks on the Big Island routinely go 100-160+ lbs in my area. I've generally gone with .45 cal rifles for hunting under permit for meat
gathering starting with an Uberti .45 Kentucky Long Rifle muzzleloader, then went to .45-70, .45ACP, .458 Win, .45 Colt using cast boolit loads.
The 45's are me favorite for hunting and plinkin'.

Some good descriptions. Had thought of a old Marlin in 35 rem, shoot pistol bullets with popper loads, hit more open terrain an actual 35 rifle.bullet loaded light.

Probably should flog/trade something, maybe in a.few months. Right now, with covid and Christmas visa bills for everyone it.seems pretty pointless.

Yeah, so... I bailed on the .458 WSM... I would need to sell my Ruger No.1-S .45-70 to fund the project and I don't need two .45 cal rifles... I took out the Ruger, oiled it up and took a series of "sales ad" photos... feeling the pangs of regret all the while. I then realized that I still had 50 rounds loaded and decided to go to the range with a batch of rifles... big mistake or perhaps a fortunate event. The rifle handles beautifully with near perfect balance and it is extremely accurate... with a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5X20 mounted it shot under an inch @ 100 and 2" @ 200 with the Speer 350 Hot-Cor FNSP bullet. No way I am letting this rifle go (for now)... not considering the 458 WSM will cost me about $1200 to do and will actually reduce the value of the rifle... for once in my life, I talked some sense into myself... a rare occurrence once the project wheels start turning.

Marlin 336 SS 30-30

Shot a few different times now trying to find the best load, I think I’m gonna try 350gr hornady interlock rn and 42.0gr of 4198 seems to be the most accurate loads holding a 1 inch group at 100 yards with iron sights

I'm liking the 450 Bushmaster meself over the 458x2 as it works just dandy in the many rifles now available in 'er plus, the standard .473" rim diameter allows
for less fuss on a build. Easy cartridge to load for using big lead and in a light rifle like this unit, it be de cats' ass. :d

I was looking into getting one myself but really did not like the feel of the rifle myself

what bullets are available for that 450 bushmaster?

There be lots of choices of .452 projectiles out there ranging from 185 to 400+ gr. in jacketed and cast. I'm only running hardcast boolits through mine like these
360 gr WFN bombs from Cast Performance I just loaded. Got plenty of 200 and 250 gr cast boolits on hand for havin' fun with as well. ;)

Kinda neat a couple more rounds in the magazine due to case profile. Also still get your hand around the balance point at five capacity with internal mag. Could be superb chambering for a semi auto hunting rifle close or medium.

Appealing.

450 Bushmaster was designed for AR15 style semi-auto rifles and has now been adopted to some bolt action rifles
