As a CGN'er I believe it is extremely important to flaunt your stuff so here goes...
(bragging mode on)

I know the 7mm Short Action Ultra Magnum (SAUM) is debated as far as a long distance performer is considered however instead of talking about it why don't we prove it.

Therefore I am going to pursue a series of short and long range tests based off the 162gr Hornady AMAX and a different series of powders.

Yes this means load development. This will be my competition rifle at the Burns Lake 1000 yard Match. Unlimited Classification - Yes a Stock rifle in that category - might not have the competative edge but I'll giv'er a go.

For your viewing pleasure here are a few pictures of the beast itself.

Manufacture / Model: Remington Model 700 Sendero
Calibre: 7mm SAUM
Mount: Ken Farrel 20MOA picatinny
Rings: 30mm TPS (PS: I have med ht - anyone want to trade for short profile 30mm rings?)
Cheek Piece: Rooster33
Optics: Leupold 6.5-20X40 LR (with side focus)

Cheers
Richard

Richard nice pics! Do you know what the twist is? If you like we should look at trying some of the Berger 168mm and 180gr (1-9 twist required).

If you need some TPS lows, let us know. We should have some stock. The Farrell base really looks usually high!

You might consider going with an extended base to get better scope support. I know more $$$$$ but just a thought.

Joe

PS - super pictures! Excellent images..

Very nice!

The Sendero is a great platform.

I miss mine :(

Now you need to add....

I did quite a bit of load development for my 24" m700 SS in 7saum I had, its a nice cartridge

my two best 160ish loads :

160 gr. - Nosler Accubond, 59.5 grs. H4831sc, WLR ~ 2791 fps, 0.41" 3 shot 100 yards *3 groups*

162 gr. - Hornady SST, 62.0 grs. IMR 7828, CCI 250 ~ 2893 fps, 0.51" 3 shot 100 yard

Nice RIG for the 1000M shoot

In 7MM there other bullets which may prove out better, the Sierras and the nosler Bal Tip in 150 & 140gr. Good luck with working up a load, hope to see you at the shoot. Bill.

Good God! Not much wonder you want a lower set of rings. lol. TPS lows are about the same height as what other brands call low. you might want to try another brand as those Farrell bases are pretty high.

Try some of Richard Graves's Wildcat bullets in the 175 gr. Range. Aparently, they're pretty high in BC and they're not any more expensive than comparable weight Sierras. Guys at www.longrangehunting.com have lots of experience with them so do some research on them there. I'm looking to try some in my 7mm Rem. Mag.
