Hello,

Any of you know of a gunsmith with experience at shortening the barrel on a BFR chambered in 45-70 Gov. Down to the ejection rod shroud?

Thanks in advance

Wanting to get the barrel down to 5". It makes a difference. I run a drop leg holster to clear my vest and barrel past my knee is no good when climbing over blow down.
I did a quick Google and found this pic of one from a dealer in the US. It’s got the barrel shortened to the ejector rod but the site says it’s six inches. I must say it does look pretty sharp.

That is what I'm looking to have done. Any one know of a competent smith that has experience?

Alrighty I take it back, it does look very sharp indeed.

Have you tried Shawn at Reliable Gun? If he can't work it, he should know who can. Dlask would be another solid bet.

Cheers.

Yes that is a sharp package.
I gather you also have a lever gun and want to stick with a single caliber? If not, there is always the Ruger Blackhawk 454 with a 4 5/8th.
Let us know if you find someone. I looked into it briefly for one of my guns but opted not to do it. I understand it is not a super difficult job for a decent gunsmith but requires some attention to detail and a jig to properly crown the muzzle.

Yes, I would prefer to have one caliber. Still have not found any one to shorten the barrel. I called Dlask Arms and the fellow I talked to claimed they can not shorten barrels on revolvers any more due to legalities.
