I need a short,lightweight,reliable and practical shotgun for camping,hiking and general self defense. However, since the gun will likely see some duty as a coyote gun, I`d like to have the option of screw in choke tubes. What are my options in this field. I`d like a 18 inch or less barrel, but don`t think under 14 would be practical. I like auto`s a bit more than the pump guns, as I`ve been shooting an 11-87 for many years, but a pump would be okay to as they`re cheaper and many more options available. I see lots of Grizzly,Dominion and Norc guns available, but I`m wondering if they have the track record for reliablility that one wants in a firearm for self defense. Not looking to spend a ton of money, hopefully not much over $400 would be good.

the D/A Grizzly is no more, or less reliable than an 870 Express. it is machined a hell of a lot better though.
consider dropping down to a 20ga and getting the 870 Compact Jr.
smaller, lighter and handier than a 12ga, less recoil, 18" barrel with rem-chokes.
comes with a regular short LOP stock, but remington took the pic of it down from their website for some reason.
