So where in the lower main land or Vancouver island is there any short range bench shoots? We have them here in Powell River on the last Sat of each month that are open to guests. What other ranges are doing it?

I'd love to shoot more than just here!

We have a nice range with a covered line, 6 cement benches and a few wooden ones that don't really get used. We get a turn out of about 10 - 15 shooters every bench shoot (score). If you ever want to come and shoot let me know.

Martin Clement out of Creston BC has/puts on some score matches.
May find one or two around Rock Creek BC too. - There are some active Hunter class shooters there...
Penticton BC once had a benchrest range that shot Group and score BR but it has died out since Vern left...

Short Range BR

We're shooting some BR @ the Campbell River Gun Club on Vancouver Island. Go to our website for the schedule. Usually first Sunday of every month except no shoots in the summer. We have a Christmas Turkey shoot and an Easter Ham shoot.

We get 6-10 shooters out, shoot 20 relays, $2/relay- winner gets 1/2. We shoot a variety of targets, mostly just fun stuff. @100yds 3 & 5 shot grps, flies, 3 & 5 shot score, Black Death Challenge, typewriter, dart board, 1 shot cold gun for center @ a multitude of interesting targets, @200yd - 3 & 5 shot grps & 1 for center.

We tried having two rifle classes, factory rifle & custom rifle with no full- blown bench guns, but with not a huge amount of guys shooting we just shot custom rifle. Come this fall we're going to try a 500yd fun BR for group and reactive targets(metal silhouettes, eggs, balloons, etc.)and have open class for guns. We'll still shoot 100 & 200 yd but try some longer range stuff too. Most guys just want to have fun and shoot.

Go to the C.R. Gun Club's website and e-mail me if anyone needs more info.

Thanks

Shoot44,

:DThat's great! Ken J here said that you guys shoot some BR over there. I'm definitely interested, so is that an open invite? I'll be into some 200y or less since my home made ppc is a 1-14 but I do have a 243 that would go longer. Do you have the matches planned for sept, oct etc. yet? I seen the dates on the site but didn't notice the course of fire.

If any of you guys want to walk your stuff on the ferry I will get you picked up and returned after any of our matches. Our next bench shoot is 100y and is on the 28th of July. $5 entry. It's very competitive in a social sort of a way.

Yep, it's an open invite. I think we'll have our regular 100/200yd in Sept., and the 500yd in Oct. After that the weather is usually so cr_ppy that 100/200 will be the norm. If there's lots of demand for 500 we'll do it but the covered firing point is really open on the 600yd range and the storms blow right through the covered area.
Thanks for the offer on the ferry. I'll pass the word on. In my case, summer is busy with family trips so not much shooting. We'll see in the fall.
I wouldn't be too concerned about your PPC in long range. Some guy in the States set a 600yd BR record with a 14 twist 70gr PPC. It can be done.
Cheers
Greg
