I got my first coyote today. I got into firearms a year ago when the landlord's small dog got taken by coyotes right off the back step. I live on a farm in an apartment. I was on a mission to get back at those darn coyotes.

So, I took my course(s), I got my PAL, got my rifle(s) :D practiced at the range, got into handloading, started practicing long range shooting (because the standard shot distance here on the farm is about 450 - 550 yds unless you track, stalk or call....hey I've only been doing this a year!!!! ;) )

As I was saying I got my first coyote today......

At 6 yards!!!!! Running at top speed at 90 degress to me 20 feet away and I haven't even tried skeet yet!!!

She popped out of a trail right in front of me and booted it across another trail when she saw me. I had my Winchester 270WSM in my shoulder already; down on one knee; pan to the left (quickly!!) and BOOM! Head over teakettle. Lung shot. The whole thing from first sighting to pile-of-dog-fur wasn't more than 4 seconds!

I had both eyes open and it was more of "move the hands in the right direction" than it was a truly scoped shot. WOW!!!!

I think it's funny because I practiced all year for long range shooting and really know my ballistics, only to pull off a totally weird shot like this.

Anyone here have a closer kill than this????

Oh yeah, wait till you hide in brush and hand call and one comes up on you from behind or cross wind and nearly runs you over. Had that happen to me last year and really wish it was leagl to carry a small cal handgun.
