Short shotgun carry options

20190420_205714.jpg

Not it's current configuration but this is how it's been for the past couple years. 14" 590A1 w/GRS, Magpul SGA and a BFG VCAS sling. When I'm riding it's usually in an Eberlestock H2 Gunrunner but if I'm on foot it's just slung. Either across the front of my body preferably, occasionally over the back with no pack or down my right side behind my shoulder if I have a pack on. It's only behind me if I need it out of the way for what I'm immediately doing. The longer it takes to get into action the more advantage you're giving away to a potential threat. A cougar at spitting distance is no time to do sling acrobatics lol. As for the scabbard on the Eberlestock, when I need to draw it I'll grab the bottom of the pack with my left hand and pull it to my left while I grab the gun with my right hand. It's a pretty seamless move under no stress but certainly not ideal and not my first choice if I have other options. But it is my favorite carry for riding. Hope this helps some.

In my opinion full stock with a sling is the only way to go. Even then a short barrel w/slugs is pretty violent. YMMV

Next up would be birdshead. My old Pachmayr pistol grip (and the one that came with the Dlask) sits in a box... in this barrel config they would be too short to run regardless

Thanks for all the replys. I ended up ordering a 590 Shockwave with a 14" barrel. If I decide on a full stock I'll go that route later.

these guns i am glad to see coming in to the country in the 14 inch configuration. for a while it seemed to be impossible to import 14 inch barreled guns from the u.s. you will not regret buying the mossberg. as for the grip i am willing to bet you swap it out for a full stock. i know some guys are pretty good with these grips but i am not one .let us know how you like your new gun and congratulations for joining the shotgun crowd.

I have a canuck regulator with a birds head grip and full stock. I use it for turkey hunting often and carry it in a scabbard on my waist. I can cross draw and still take a flushed cottontail so its fast enough and makes carrying decoys and a fold up chair alot easier when going in for turkeys
