So what's the deal with short term ATT's in BC now? I went to a gun store to look at a Ruger blackhawk and they said they do it all and need a copy of my gun club membership. I didn't think I needed my gun club mambership for a short term transport. I was hoping to get everything rolling so I could be at the range by the weekend but because it would take a hour and a half to get my membership from home and it's close to closing. It's not happening today.

It's been a few years since I needed a STATT. last time I went bought a gun came home called the cfo told them when and were and thats it 2 days later I had it.

This for BC. I know all the provinces seem to be different

You can still call and get your own STATT from the BC CFO. Just tell the shop to start the transfer and you'll deal with it yourself. My last short term took a few minutes to get from the start of the call to it arriving in my email

Well u need a membership to own the gun so why not for the STATT. I have never been asked for my membership but the BCCFO should have that on file anyways.

Since when did you need a club membership to own a restricted? I call bs on that. You need it for LTATT

seems that you need a LTATT before you can get a STATT...

why transfer a restricted to you if you have no way of actually being able to shoot it, and since guns are not for self defence, the only reason to have a restricted is to take it to a range.

What about collectors? I could get a STATT and go to the range in coquitlam wich has a drop-in no membership required. I understand you need a club membership for LTATT. But why for a short? Do they really require it for short term ATT?

Unless you have collector status (which you don't), you are WRONG!! Try and transfer a restricted to your name without a valid club membership, the CFO will not approve it. This is in BC, I can't speak for other provinces.

BC CFO requires a long term ATT before they will register a restricted firearm to you - no, it isn't written in law, but that doesn't mean sh*t. You will not get a restricted registered to you without one, it has been that way for over a year now. A long term ATT requires club membership, therefore you can't have a restricted without being a club member.

You DO have to have a gun club membership to buy a gun. You won't get the att without a mebership and you won't get a statt without att. I don't know if this is new but it's the way it is. Not sure about collector status.

I know you need a ltatt before you get a statt and you need a club membership to get a ltatt. I just thought it was wierd you need to show it for statt as well. I never had to before. Since they already have it. Just seems like way to much BS. Why can't everyone with a rpal just have the normal conditions of a ltatt

If the gun is registered in your name and you go to pick it up at the gun store what if they are also a gunsmith does your LTATT cover that???

Ditto, what he said, and no it isnt Law but it is policy, kinda silly but just the way its set up, so just get your membership and its good to travel to any gun club, any gunsmith and to the border. Weird EH:confused:

BC CFO and ST-ATT apps...

I have recently seen, that for the past week or so there has been a back-log of ST-ATT apps via the BC CFO office. A couple of local gunshops have experienced this when doing customer transfers for restricteds. I don't have any info on what the cause of the current back log is.

Not sure if the same situation exists for a person to person restricted transfers, though.

Perhaps someone can chime in if they have further info on this issue.

I don't have any further info on ST-ATT's, but I am now into week two on a restricted transfer (both parties in BC). A month ago these were done in 24-48 hrs. Maybe someone at the BC CFO Office is on vacation ?

I just had a transfer from Wanstalls completed in 5 days, started on the 1st. Short-term was done on the 8th on the phone instantly.

Faxing in my gfs' LTATT today, see how long that takes.

I just sold a restricted.
Applied for a STATT on the answering machine with all the info they requested.
Time was around 9-10am on Friday- looking for one to use on Saturday.
They called back before lunch (that morning), faxed me as well and were extremely easy to deal with...

It's a bit early for me; the tinfoil hat is still on the rack.
So what's the big deal about being a member of a gun club?
You want to own these devices yet you don't actively belong to a club and by that you are not supporting your own right to own these firearms.
Club level activity not only supplies a location to actually use these firearms but they are also the grassroots backbone of the pro firearms movement and they are desperately seeking (contributing) members - well most clubs anyways.
With out the club membership, under current law, what exactly are you going to do with a restricted firearm? wank off on it??
Buy a stainless one.
Rant off.
Flame suit on...

Yes and if you hold a current IDPA or IPSC membership in BC the CFO, upon request and a copy of your current membership will put all four western provinces on your LTAA along with the Yukon and NWT. I believe this is also true of Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba CFO's.

Take Care

Holly crap were did that come from. I am a member of a local club.

My problem was with the staff at the store saying they can't do a transfer or get my statt with out a copy of my club membership. I called the CFC this morning and they said they didn't need it for my STATT as they already have it when I did my LTATT. I'm just pissed the store wasted my time and fuel making me go back home and get my club membership card. ( it's an hour and a half trip) when I didn't even need it.
