I just find out today 223 ammo went up in price quite a bit, for example
Fed. 223 used to cost $ 5.80/20 about 3 weeks ago it's now $ 7.95/20
before taxes. what's going on .... well their reason is because of the war.
Also I heard big shortage of FMJ bullets ....

Well

No shortage at my house:)

Mine either, but I bought a few thousand prior to January 1st... :D

The main reason is major US manufacturers have started passing along a brass price increase that they have been eating for some time, (hence the size of the jump, reported as 20% in some places)

I don't think there is a shortage, as I have no issue buying large amounts, but the price has definately picked up a bit...

Best way around it is to BUY IN BULK AND RELOAD.

if you buying amo under 10 bucks a box of 20 you are still beating around here prices by 10 bucks on avrage. anything local are all around the 20 dollar mark, so i think your lucky.

I never dip below 2500 .223...It is my zero count. The best thing I can suggest is buy in bulk and look for deals (In the dealer section here for starters)...

There is a shortage of lead in the world. Thats what we have been told by everyone who sells ammo.
Demand for lead, and other metals used in ammo, has gone up, up, up!
It checks, as the price, and availability of lead storage batteries, has also gone though the roof.
Just goes to show...buy as much as you can, when you can...
The price never goes down!

Where are located in PEI?

When i lived in Summerside there was a sporting goods shop on Water street that sold G&A. Expensive...$25 for 20 rounds of 9mm..etc.

Just look at the supply of surplus .308 ammo... Oh wait.. there's none left! Supplies have all but dried up, all that South African stuff has practically disappeared. I talked to every major gun store in the Edmonton area, and what they have in stock is all they are going to have for quite a while (which is practically nothing). Prices for .223 and .308 are going to be going up thru the roof. I even had a friend who can get dealership prices and deliveries check all his sources, and he came up with nothing. If you can find any ammo now, get it. Whatever's left is going to be a lot of $$ in no time.

Todays price for lead is $0.85.

If a box of ammo weighed 15lbs, we might have a problem. The lead in a box of 308 ammo weighs 180(example) x 20 = 3600grains . Minus a few grains worth of jacket still doesn't doesn't add up to half a pound, or about $0.42.

Still think the price of lead is driving up the cost of ammo?

Connect the dots people. Supply of surplus foreign ammo is drying up. North American prices are going up.

Hmmmmm. Co-inka-dink? I think not.

Do you think the feds are trying to starve us out? How is that even possible with the CPC in power?

Well to follow your argument, since lead has about tripled in price, the price would rise $.30, just based on the lead. Then there is the increase in copper and brass prices, lets say $1.00. Then the $Cdn is worth $0.86 today, but last year it was about $0.92.

So a $10 box of ammo would now be $11.30, add in currency changes and we get $12.09. Hey that is about 20% !!!! Co-inka-dink?

I posted something on this other thread ,http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136956

And type too slow to repeat it here. Let's continue the discussion on one thread or the other, you pick.:)

i was in minot yesterday. Scheels had some new stock and old stock bullets. the price of 308, 168gr A-max was $6 more per box than the old stock. they said all the new bullets will be more because of increasing metal prices.

so i came back with almost $1000 in components. that should last a year or so.
