Shortage of Large-pistol Primers?

Maybe it's just the 2-3 places I've tried, but for some reason a lot of places are having a hard time stocking large-pistol primers e.g. Win WLP. As I'm thinking I'd like to get into reloading, it would be nice to know firstly why this is, then a couple of places, ideally in Ontario where primers (and the other components while I'm at it) can be obtained for .45 ACP reloading.

Thanks

Large are usually easier to find than small, the only way to find primers in Ontario is to call all the stores weekly and hope you luck out...

I found 7 thousand small pistol primers 6 months ago or so and have been looking every couple of weeks since I got them and finally found some more, they are the kind of thing you keep buying even if you have lots...

Did you try Higginson's? Henry Nierychlo on this site had LPP a couple of weeks ago. Price was a bit steep, but they were in stock and shipped quickly. These shortages and jumping prices sure make reloading more challenging than in past years, don't they?

Williams Arms in Port Perry has Winchester primers, but as you might know, with tax, be prepared to pay about $40/1000....I`ve PM`ed you about another source....

Just to be sure we are all on the same page, you are aware that we are at the tail end of a multi-year ammunition shortage, yes? That primers of all kinds have been in short supply for months or years?

The "tail end" ??? Are you saying prices and availability are going to get better in the next while ??? Is there something that we don't know about ???

Wow, they seem to have a lot of stuff there (like everything). Since I don't have the handicap of knowing how cheap prices were before, I can only compare them to factory ammo prices. At 40% less than factory prices (approximately) it still makes sense to me .41 vs .66 per shot. Maybe more, I forgot to factor in the shipping. Sigh.

No ammo, just components.
Thanks. I'm gonna start reloading in a month or so, so I need to figure out where to get my supplies from. I'll probably make another trip to Williams Arms anyway, to get another 2 cases of 9mm factory ammo, so I may as well get supplies there - if they have them. Too bad Williams doesn't have a price list on their site.

I can't say as I've never been to Williams Arms, but Epps carries loads of reloading supplies. More than that, the store itself is a sight to behold.

Apply for another credit card before heading out...
