Shortage of public groups?

We don't want the uneducated misinterpreting our posts, thus the mods make most forums closed except to members (who've read the rules, understand what they're accessing, etc.). At least that's my take on it. 'My' Jeep forum is almost completely open (except off-topic). But we never post trail heads, and meeting places are always a Tim Hortons.

Hey guys, Just noticing there isn't hardly any public groups on this site!
My truck site has a whole bunch of public groups.

CGN has unpaid and paid access. The paid access level also has three levels, "member," "super," and "uber." The last two paid access levels get to create and mod groups. I'm not sure if unpaid access users can join. I suspect they can, but I haven't tested it.

Short Rant ON...

There are no public groups on this site, in my opinion anyways, because the firearms sport seems to gather a lot of empassioned people. This can be good for those who support the hobby and the sport since there is such a huge brother/sisterhood among those who enjoy it: the education and intelligence of this group to me seems phenominally high. Often that is shown by the integrity of facts and the common-sense reality they bring to the discussions of rights and laws.

However, it seems to me that those who are empassioned against the hobby and sport base their position on emotion only: they seem to me to want to "spin the media" and present whatever "half-truths and falsehoods" they can to get support. Regardless of the fine intelligence and education of the "anti crowd" I have never seen the ones I know use it: they use a lot of "because" with no facts, twist facts to whatever end they wish, and LOVE to misquote others. I know! I have two "anti's" in my family that are no end of being a "thorn in my side" because they feel I must be "saved from my sadistic ways" and so forth.

In my very opinionated opinion (of which I feel is due to over two decades in the sport/hobby) the "anti-crowd" are more dangerous than the tools they want to ban: often they will feel it is fine to distroy all civil liberties and rights of honest people to gain their end (end always justifies the means, right?). In an effort to curb as much wrongful, hateful and idiotic use of the information, ideas and quotes on this site the moderators have not allowed open public forums here.

It is a good thing. If a single open forum was here I could see it shut down in under 30 days: there would be so much swearing, misquotes, phone text language and so many attempts to use it to degrade forum users... we have enough of that now on a closed forum, regardless of how awesome the moderators and Mr.Greentips are.

I like knowing that I am an invited guest of Mr.Greentips... because I know as opinionated as I am I have tried to uphold a small measure of integrity and honour here... and that would hopefully uphold my invitation to be here should an "anti" come here solely to discredit, insult, harass and/or prosecute me: and thus result in that "anti" becoming uninvited in a hurry.

So, there is my opinionated rant. 'Nuff said... thanks for listening/reading.

P.S.: Kudos to CGN mods.... you have my respect.

With respect, it has nothing to do with your opinion. The vBulletin public group feature has been turned off unless you are a paying customer of CGN. Click on the "Official CNG Store", pay your fees, create your public group and join the conversation.
