There was a great thread on here about making a Winchester 37a I think into a smaller shotgun.
I have a Remington 812 that I bought to give to my little sisters boyfriend. He passed his CORE test but never bothered to get his PAL. If he gets around to it, I'll give him something but I want to chop this thing to a ~27" pistol'ish shotgun to sling over my shoulder when it's not practical to take a full size one.

I have a pipe cutter and I would use it to cut slowly at the 19" mark or so, so I can make the grip whatever shape I want to when I get there and leave it above 26".

Has anyone done a Rem 812? I bought it because of the forward of the trigger action release, the tang opener on a small shotgun has bit me before.

Any pictures/suggestions/tips would be great, even a link to the original thread that I used to read and can't find.

Anyways, I got inspired by the trombone case shotgun but I'll be aiming for trumpet :)

I was going to do the same thing to an old shotgun that I have. But I have a question. How far does the choke go back on a barrel. For instance, if I have a full choke barrel, and I cut 10 inches off it, is it full choke, modified, or IC?

A couple of inches at the most.
You will be left with a straight cylinder bore.
A choke unit could be installed, or a jug choke polished in, or a choke swaged at the new muzzle.
But I really doubt that anyone making up one of these whippet guns has any need for choke.

After the 870 I bought last night, it makes about a half dozen 12 gauges in the box, so I'm not too concerned about the choke or lack there of of this one.

No No. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum...d.php?t=530954 isn't the one I was looking for, I read through just about that whole thing last night. I like the paint.

The one I was looking for was I think a 20 gauge Winchester 37a, had the procedure, range report with videos, etc. It was a great thread. I couldn't find it in either sporting or black and green by searching. (going back months and sorting through 100). It's there somewhere.

Maybe this is the one you are looking for.

It is in the wrong forum too.

So... 19" barrel, 27" overall. Went fairly well, comfortable.

I'll do a paint job after I go try it out.. Right after I post this :)

Thank you,

We are taking some new/newish shooters out Sunday and I thought it would be fun to have by then. I won't let anyone try without understanding what it's going to do. As much as I think the recoil injury youtube videos are funny, I won't do that to a friend.

That is till my 870 express super magnum shows up. Turns out federal makes 2 1/4 oz 3.5" loads :) owie.

I can do that... it took a long time (20 minutes) with the pipe cutter and I would only use yours, not your friends, dad's etc.. it looks like it's in good shape but I would bet it's not as sharp as it used to be. It's a tool that will do the job, not the right tool exactly... I used a half inch wide single cut file ( my chainsaw raker tooth file) to smooth it a little nicer. Next time I'm in a good gun store I might find a small cold blue kit or just leave it.

Gimme a few. I'll take a picture of the muzzle.
