Shortened and Refurbished Mosin Nagants at Marstar.

Cosmetic defects I can live with (and heck, even gives them character)... but the bit explaining "rifling on many of these Mosins are rough" is a deal breaker for me unfortunately. Sucks, because otherwise these are pretty neat rifles.

I bought one and the bore cleaned up nicely. Pretty accurate too. Managed to get 3 shots touching each other at 50 yds. Don't worry Corelunc. I won't be selling it anytime soon. ;)

I’m thinking on buying one. I think this gun would be legal to bubba, since it’s already bubba’d.

How much does a m38 or m44 go for these days? Over $550?

Description sounds like they bubba'd these up themselves...hard pass lol.

What else is there to do with them? It's not like new barrels are an affordable option and selling them with dead barrels won't get you anywhere either.

I imagine they got a couple boxes of really rough examples and did the best they could to make functional rifles.

Which given the Soviet mindset would probably be exactly what they would do

Between the rough bores, pitted exterior, and unknown quality of the work done (they specifically say they don't have jigs or anything so they'll all be slightly different) I won't be taking a gamble on this.

How many people would be interested in clapped out but complete Mosins for their historical value alone?

At the current price, I don't think it's a lot. Especially considering the condition of a lot of what's available these days from retail stores. I feel like anyone who knows anything about milsurps would probably want to spend a bit more and get one of the nicer ones that came in a few years ago? So that just leaves the cheap bastards like me, and there's a lot of options for cheap used stuff at the $400 +/- price point. I can tell you my desire for a Mosin is a fraction of what it used to be, doubly so when you consider the increase in ammo cost.

That said, if you're new to guns and want to start a collection, and don't yet trust the world of private sale over the internet, then buying from a store is one of your only options. I don't think there are a crap ton of those types though.

I think that having 3 shots touching each other at 50 yds in two 5 shot groups with open sights is pretty accurate. But yes, the flash and blast is big and might make accuracy difficult for some shooters.
