Shortening an HS precision stock

Howdy.
I noticed a line about a half inch back from the butt end. Is this a possible shortening cut line? I believe the stock is foam filled. There must be some solid plastic up to some point for the butt screws. If you cut the stock down a half inch will i encounter problems with the threaded holes being terminated? Its off a 700 Police 308.

I suppose I should've posted this one in the gunsmithing forum. Maybe a nice mod can move it.

There is a piece of Al that runs from the forward sling swivels through the bedding block, and back to the butt. This is wrapped in foam, then fiberglass(or whatever the outer is).

I am not sure if the Al tube that runs from the bedding block to the butstock ends in an Al vertical piece though. I suspect that either there is, or the buttplate is just screwed into the foam, and glued.
