Is it possible to shorten a magazine tube? Is it just threaded on the receiver end?

Will a Dlask 12.5" barrel fit on a Mossberg 500?

A willing machinist or a competent, well-equipped gunsmith could shorten and re-thread your magazine tube.

The Dlask 12.5" barrel is made for the Remington 870 (and copies, but not a Mossberg 500); a barrel for a Mossberg 500 is completely different.

I don't believe there is enough metal thickness to rethread a Remington 870 mag tube. The tube has to be removed from the frame and then shortened , then rewelded , brazed or silver soldered. because it is what holds the barrel in place. Now a Mossberg 500 has a mag tube that threads into the frame or reeiver and can be shortened at the front , then having the solid end plug rewelded in place. And yes a willing machinist or competent , well equiped gunsmith could shorten your mag tube but it would be a major and probably expensive project.

A willing machinist did shorten and re-thread his 870 magazine tube - without removing the tube from the frame - using a "four-jaw-chuck lathe". I know this because he later posted photos of the lathe, his progress, and his finished work on the tactical shotguns photo thread on the internet forum Shotgun World.
