I was looking to get an 10-11" barrel for my Armalite AR15. It came with a 16". Do I have to change anything other than just the barrel? Where can I get a good price on a shorter barrel?

Thanks in advance :)

What type of upper are you running right now? How much use has it seen ect. Arms east may be able to supply you with a short AR barrel from CMMG. See the links above^

Correct me if I am wrong, but extraction is harsher the shorter the gas system is since the delay is shorter and the case is more pressurised and still 'stuck' to the chamber walls when extraction begins. This is less of a problem in rifle and mid-length systems with longer lock times.

If, however the gas length isn't changing (if you have a car length gas tube already), then not much will change, but reliability might go down due to the shorter barrel length beyond the gas pick-off on the barrel.

The Shorter barrel will have a much larger gas port than the 16" barrel...
The need to compensate for the longer gas pressure curve - with a large short whack.

I'd say buy a factory upper of the barrel lenght that you wish rather than to try to bubba, err I mean "modify", an existing factory built, and calibrated upper (which is a pretty sophisticated, precisely engineered machine to begin with)... You can never have too many uppers anyway ... ;)

I presume it has the carbine length gas tube?

It can be cut, crowned and threaded. Gas port needs the size made bigger. Unless it is a crappy 16" barrel, there is no reason it won't work properly. I have done many.
