I am just getting into Ruger 10/22s (my first long gun, I have pistols) and my range only goes to 25 meters. What would you recommend in the 0-$500.00 range for optics? A red dot or a scope or just stick with the old irons, or are there other options?

I would prefer to use something beyond irons as part of the fun is learning how to use new gadgets and I have never used anything with a scope/red dot or anything like that. I am trying to use this as an introduction to maybe getting into ARs or other long guns in the future at a different club with a full rifle range.

The goal for now is fun and accurate paper punching at 25 meters with my 10/22.

Thanks for your suggestions!

bushnell or simmons 22 scope 3x9 around 50.00

yes its alot of power but you an keep it on 3 until you go our to shoot.
These are maid for 22 calibers and are inexpensive but not cheap for the gun

Why not get a set of Tech Sights ghost rings. Really fun to shoot with and way better than the standard open sights.
If you range is just 25m then I don't see getting anything more powerfun then 4x, especially if you not going to be shooting from a bench.

Try having a search for a Falcon Menace 1.5-5x scope, they would suit you well I think. Unfortunately not available right now, there should be a new run of them soon.

If you want to go near the top end of your price range then look at an Aimpoint. Expensive but really cool, a real milspec optic.

I've personally got a Fakepoint (aimpoint clone) that I got for $30 used sitting on my 10-22 and it's a lot of fun. I can bounce a can all day with it.
Cheers,
Grant

Bushnell makes some decent inexpensive scopes, such as the trophy/sportsman/dusk and dawn line.
i've got a 3-9x50mm sportsman on my Remington 597 ( a little bit much scope) however, i think i paid $80 for it and 30 for the rings.
Its more than enough scope for the .22, and its been beat around quite a bit without loss of zero.
just my .02

well if you spend a lot less than you were planning on that means you get more money to spend on ammo or other gadgets. but i would buy as much ammo as possible, youll need and want every last shot.
