Shortest non-restricted 10/22 barrel?

Gday. I want to mod my ruger 10/22 all weather with a new barrel. As short as possible without becoming restricted. Whats the shortest non-restricted barrel length? and where can i get one? thanks.

The shortest your rifle can be is 26" regardless of barrel length. But you can not simply cut a barrel below 18.5" you must purchase the shorter barrel already manufactured that way. The shortest I have seen and used is the Dlask 8"
 
Dlask will do custom lengths for a very reasonable fee. Just measure from the buttplate forward to 660mm or 26" and make a mark on the barrel, then measure from the barrel face (where the bolt sits against) to that mark to tell you how short you can go. IIRC an 8" barrel and wood stock was 26.5" but Im not positive on that. You can also slap on an extended buttpad to go with a shorter barrel. An 8" sporter taper with no thread would be cool, but you will have to shorten the forend on your stock. Personally I always recommend going a little over min OAL just to make sure an LEO doesnt pull some rubber tape measure BS and cause you a world of hurt. Its unlikely but a little extra length is alot of insurance to prevent that from happening.
