Just picked up this little beauty, I know it’s a sporter endfield (I love them I just can’t help it) and I know the barrel was cut down at some point, probably not by the factory because it’s missing the barrel band, I think it’s using some parts from Indian drill rifles (mag, bolt, safety) can’t wait to get it to the range to play with
It’s a bsa 1916, the rifle on top is my lithglow 1916 for comparison

I was admiring that one the EE myself but as usual procrastinated! I had a #1 in the blond stock, 18". Really cool but the recoil, OMG. 2 groove and fairy shot out but the guy that bought was going to run it as the camp bear gun. Perfect. Have you shot yours yet?
I like the sporters too , my current favorite being my 1929 #1 from the Enfield arsenal, mag cut off still intact

that reminds me of a project I started a few years ago but never completed.

cut down No1 that I spliced some sporter wood up to make a 'full' stock, moved the rear sight back back a couple inches for a longer sight radius, and planned on a custom nose cap more like the calvary carbines or the long lee. Never got around to making the nosecap or the wood for the top.

but now that the milling machine is set up :)

Haven’t shot it yet but the barrel seems fine, my favourite sporter is my 1918 #1 from the Enfield factory, no mag cutoff but it was my grandfather’s and it’s never missed a moose

Sounds sick, I’d like to get some beat up wood for this one and make it look like a regular full wood no1mk3 but shorter, orrrr, put a red dot on a forward mount and add a weapon light for a tacticool little rifle, decisions decisions

The receiver and barrel are from some sprtter, so probably ok. Doesn’t matter if the safety and mag are dp stamped. It’s easy to check if the safety is working or not.

The DP electropencilled on the bolt is a concern though.

Bolts were marked DP because they got out of spec and were relegated for assembly to a DP rifle.

Often it’s because the recoils lugs have set back, bore unevenly, or if the bolt heads available all over indexed on that bolt.

Before firing it, I’d either replace the bolt with one not DP marked, or at least have a smith check headspace and that the lugs bear evenly in the receiver.

I’ve got a couple bolts I can pop in, safety works, the bolt head looks weird, almost like it was late war production before they went from round head to straight head, I assume the barrel is original to the receiver and it doesn’t look shot out, just cut short, front sight is a little mangled looking tho
