Picked up a shorty M305 at a gun show 4 months ago...took it to the range and it failed to fire...light strike from the firing pin...took it back to the retailer who sent it back to North Sylva to be fixed. Was told that some of the wood stocks are too tight and a simple file/shave of the stock would fix the problem...it.s now been gone for three months with no return in sight...I was wondering if anyone else with one of these rifles has had an issue and if anyone has experience with how long North Sylva warranty work can take...I am also somewhat disturbed by the fact that the rifle was never tested at North Sylva when they switched the polymer stock for the wood one...

North Sylva is distributor not a smithy. They test nothing and will send it out(not that you should care about that as long as it gets fixed.). Most likely didn't change the stock themselves either. Last time I was there(not recently) they had a warehouse and nothing else.
Anybody ever clean the bolt?

When it failed to fire did the hammer fall when you pulled the trigger, or did it just fail completely to go click or boom at all?

It went click and there was a very faint indent on the round...this is getting more disturbing as it contradicts a lot of what the retailer has told me is happening...

If it went click I don't think it would have anything to do with the stock. An improper stock fit can cause the hammer to follow the bolt back up, which would mean no click or boom. Sounds like either something preventing the firing pin from going all the way forward (gunk in the channel maybe) or the bolt not going fully into battery. The very faint indent could have been caused by the free-floating firing pin as the round was being stripped off the magazine, prior to the firing pin being retracted by the safety bridge.

I had light strikes on a brand new Canada Ammo "Socom" and it was caused by the hammer rubbing against part of the trigger group it should not be touching. This was caused by poorly made parts that did not center the hammer and give it the clearance that it needs.

I don't know what your issue was but it might not have been caused by the stock. In my case I sent the trigger assembly back to Canada Ammo and they sent me one that works.
