Shorty shotguns (Benelli Supernova). Practical?

I recently sold my only shotgun with plans to replace it with a better one I've been thinking about getting a Benelli Supernova 14", mainly because of how cool it looks.
So other than the cool factor, is it only really good for home/bear defence? How accurate are slugs out of the short barrel? And will shooting skeet still be possible? Nothing too serious, just from the hand launcher.
I shouldered one recently and loved the feel of the Supernova. Just not sure if I should get the 18" or 14". I want it mainly for home defence, but would still like to do a bit of skeet, and slug shooting.

Check the EE. There's a guy selling a 14" Supernova that comes with an extra rifled 28" barrel if you want to take the odd longer hunting trip.

It is an interesting and versatile shotgun but its usefulness depends on intended use and extras you are willing to pay for. And the later are not cheap.

The 14" barrel is a smooth bore, not threaded. Great and fun with slugs. Never shot so many since I have it. Not threaded = no chokes, meaning not appropriate for clays IMHO.

I purchased an additional 24" threaded barrel for mine. Fitted with a turkey choke and EO Tech, it is my turkey gun.

As an example of its versatility, there is a CQB training in CFB Valcartier this weekend: off goes the turkey choke and on goes the Improved. Off goes the magazine plug (allowing 5 shells instead of 3) and on goes the +2 tube extension, making it a 7 shells shotty. It is my 3Gun shotty as well.

(Because I'm too cheap to buy me a M2 or M4) I really like my SuperNova. I did suffer a few light strikes at a 3Gun last November. It may be due too too much oil in freezing weather.

Chokes will make up for the shorter barrel, dont let it deter you if thats the gun you want, ive shot skeet with my 8" grizzly when I had it,I had it threaded for chokes
