[SHOT 2019] New Hi-Point 9mm Carbines! Canadian Compliant

Good god - so the Canadian one will have a long stub of barrel out the end, but the sights remain in the OEM position? Yuck. Why not move the sight out to the muzzle to improve sight radius and have it not look awful?

And what did I hear in the vid about the grip will have to be shaved way down to take a C9 pistol mag? So the stock mag is not considered a handgun mag here (Canada) and you need to use some shorter version of the pistol mag that does not fit the carbine grip? Why not just make a longer pistol mag and not give us a stubby pistol grip? Or how about a recess in the grip so the mag fits in without having a stubby little non-ergo think approximating a pistol grip?

Glad I brought a Ruger PCC instead of waiting for this impending monstrosity.

They said it was a protype and probably about the shorter grip, so there is still hope for a different solution.

Ahem ... cough cough ... single stack Glock magazine anyone?

These look slightly less ugly than before ... something different about the finish or polymer maybe?

A good pricepoint and I might consider it.

Claven, anyone buying a hipoint already knows it looks awful to start.
Making it look awfuller Takes some efort.

No one buys them for esthetics.

I have been excited about this coming to Canada since I saw the frontier ad last year. Mostly cause of the price. If they can't get the laws straight and it has a some weird mini grip or 5 round mag I am out.

I am fine with the front sight set back but it should be at the muzzle. We just want their version with a longer barrel and takes the pistol mags. Why is it so difficult? I don't even care if they have to play a games where the one mag that comes with it is pinned at 5. Just make 10rounders available.

LOL. That said, I just bought a ruger PCC and it's similarly ugly, but somehow does not look like a compromise for Canadian buyers. Ruger fluted the barrel to 18 of the 18.6" length, put the front sight out at the end of the muzzle, threaded the muzzle like a US version, and managed to build a gun that takes dirt-common glock mags. It's more money because it says Ruger on it, but in essence, it's a very similar firearm. Fixed stock, heavy reciprocating blow back bolt, no pistol grip, itrons, synth stock, etc.

If they would just make the grip so it took some other brand of mags where long mags are available (i.e. 10/20's, 10/32's, etc.), then maybe it would be a winner.

I really don't care that the stock has odd aesthetics. The un-threaded barrel stub protrusion and proposed short grip to force the use of uncommon proprietary mags are the deal killers IMHO.

I'm shocked that they would even talk about anything "canadian compliant". Good on them.

And why would they not? Canada is about the size of california with a similar percentage of firearms enthusiasts. EVERY maker makes a "california-compliant whatever". Making a Canadian compliant gun is the exact same business calculation.

I know it's very similar to california... but most american (anything) doesn't give a rat's ass about us. Again, good on them (and for us!).

Heck, some US companies don't give a fk about california as well (I'm looking at you Sig for not making 21rd p320 x5 mags with a 10rd factory crimp/limiter...)
