Made around 300 pounds of #8 shot.

My nephew said he made one out of an old electric fry pan with some gas furnace orifices' in it. Said it works ok but you have to have it just so or it makes kind of tear drop shaped shot. For just messing around with trap and skeet at the range that is good enough for him. I haven't seen it yet because of the covid-19 crap but hopefully I will soon.

Problem is with cheap shotgun shells you really are not saving that much getting all the reloading stuff now a days, but I love to reload almost as much fun as shooting. lol
 
Not certain how many I will have to load to "break even", but for my 28 gauges, I recall store bought shells were always pretty healthy price - so I bought the MEC reloading set-up for 28 gauge - was able to come up with maybe 50 pounds of #8 and #7 1/2 shot - pulling together the bits to make my own shot maker here - with "free" shot (ha!), the 28 gauge seems quite reasonable to reload for - but maybe not worth it compared to cheap promo 12 gauge.
 
That’s very nice shot gdkmedic. I made 400 lbs using borrowed equipment but it sure didn’t turn out like that! But I’m using in my 3 gun shotgun for now.
 
That is very nice looking shot.
The shot we have made is useable but not consistent like that.
Melt temperature is important as is the lead.
We had some range lead ingots that would not work at all. Wheel weight ingots worked much better.
 
Hi Gary, I'm looking to get a similar setup going as the smaller lead size is hard to get around her if you don't order a ton.. can you tell me what thickness you used for your shotmaker? Also I see you have a temp controller for the lead, would you share how you did set this up an what you used?
