Shot options for geese

Anybody using 3" #2-4 steel shot out of short barrel with no choke?

Want to maybe try some goose/ducks if I can find someone to go with, but my shotgun is a 14" Norinco Pump :D

The most signifigant advantage I found was to not worry so much about what I was shooting, but how I was shooting it. After 3 seasons of patterning and hunting I finally settled on Kent Faststeel No.2 to BBB depending on the situation, but all are used in my Nova with a .675 Terror choke. I found that setting a gun up properly will maximize the shell I am shoting in it.

I agree! Money is better spent on getting to the Skeet Field or Sporting Clays course, rather than the new fangled 2200 fps whatever. I like the Kent Fasteel as well, decent price for a good shell. Pattern your particular gun, see what choke works best with a particular shell and go with that.

Goose Loads

I have tried about every steel load made....(at least what we see in our local shops) in 2 3/4"....3"....and 3.5"....I personally have owned SBEII, and Xtrema2 to shoot the big heavy thumping 3.5" loads at geese, and have since sold those guns because personally I feel that you don't need it...

Last fall I heard of the new Federal Black Clouds in 3". Bought a few boxes, and am now totally sold!! I will not shoot anything but...We primarily use BB's, and let me tell you if you have not tried them find yourself a few boxes. They are flat out mad medicine on waterfowl....

The wads are the furtherest out in the field (by a long ways) when looking for cripples. We hit birds inside 20 yrds that the wad has embedded itself into the flesh.....did I mention "baaadd medicine" ?? Try em and good luck with your decision...

Note: CTC, charges I think it was $32/box of 25, but if you make some phone calls, you can buy them by the case of 250 for about $210+ taxes... For premium steel loads that is a very good price !!

SW Ontario Early Goose season starts Sept 4th with daily limits of 10/gunner...possession of 24..

A safe and successful waterfowling season to all involved in 08' ;)
