Just curious, when it comes to shot placement on a broadside coyote,
what part do you aim for.
Rib cage area for heart and lung, or a little farther back?

as any other animal?
to me that depends on the animal.
Deer is heart and lung, pests get the head shot,
and gut shooting can be considered vitals.
I have read where coyote hunters keeping the fur,
go for bread basket (rib cage), so only one hole will be in hide.

Its your ammo and cal that will destroy the pelt most cases. Going for a gut shot to save the pelt is usless and cruel. Vidals man. all the time. no shot in one spot will save the pelt more than another shot.

WOW thats confusing how do you shoot it behind the shoulder when the animal is facing you...

I shoot predators in the chest or neck and when they are facing me that means in front of the shoulder... :p

Thanks for the input, wanted to get a feel for what other consider a proper shot.
I have seen hunting shows where it was obvious that they were shot too far back,
and right after the impact the camera cuts away.
When good shots are done, there is lots of good camera followup.
I have seen this many times with deer hunting shows using archery.
You saw a really bad shot, and camera cuts away to show the estatic happy hunter
finally getting a nice deer.

head and neck best shots you can get kills em instantly broadside is cruel cause the animal has to suffocate on there own blood or bleed to death very inhumane if you ask me if it's on the run punch some holes in it you will find it use a 30-06 with 125 grains no tracking involved no matter where you hit it but i shoot yotes cause there a nuisance i have no use for pelt so i blow em all to hell your better off to listen to the bolt action boysi guess

Your serious head shots are the last shot I would take on a predator and suffocating on their own blood with a lung shot is a load of crap.

Put a bullet thru the lungs and the lungs are distroyed and unable to function resulting in a dead animal hard to suffocate when the organ can't do it's job and most hit the ground instantly.

I have shot dozens upon dozens of coyotes in the lungs with 223/22-250 and up only one ran any distance after I hit it in the lungs I shot it with a 180gr Norma hunting bullet from my 308 Norma Mag.

It was already dead it just didn't know it just like all the deer I have also shot.

Do you get out of Ottawa often enough to actually hunt.

What a poorly thought out comment.

Best place to shoot a coyote? As long as the geographic area is legal for hunting, that's a good place to shoot one, IMHO.

:)

I will aim on or slightly behind shoulder on a broadside yote, halfway up from the bottom (biggest margin for error).

out of all the coyotes i have shot both broadside and facing shots .i put my shots right behind the shoulder broadside . when there facing me i put it just where the neck joins onto the body . all one shot kills .drop instantly .

Broadside........easy, aim for the side of the head, and let the 260 grn Nozzler do the rest!
