Shot shell storage

Back in the day when I was doing a lot of trap shooting, I liked to store the "target" shot shells in the 20 or 25 round commercial boxes they are sold in. I saved those boxes for hand loading those hulls.

A trap vest often has pockets on each side, one for empty hulls and another that a 25 round box will fit nicely into. This is very handy on the range.

There are also bags available with a pouch on the front for a 25 round commercial box and a large bag to contain the empty hulls.

I don't know how long you're planning on storing them, but many trap shooters, that reload, start reloading right after Christmas and continue to spring. They mostly store the reloads in those commercial boxes, which in turn are either stored on shelves or in cardboard boxes that contain ten boxes, which in turn are easily carried.

Long term storage is similar, as long as the storage area is dry and temps don't fluctuate a lot. Regular room temps are fine.

I store mine in clear plastic bags that wads come in, with a twist tie holding the top shut as well as a cardboard tag with the "batch number". The number corresponds to a loading log that describes that batch in more detail.
I usually put about 150 rds in each bag, which then goes into a 5 gallon pail.
When I need ammo, they come out of the large bag and get transferred to smaller ziploc freezer bags that hold 25 rds each.
Just dump a small bag into a vest pocket and you're good for a round of skeet or trap. The bags are reusable almost indefinitely.
Cardboard boxes are a pia IMO.

MTM sells a 4 pack of clear plastic boxes for 2 3/4 inch shells. Same size as the factory cardboard boxes. Not indestructible by any means, but they go on sale on Amazon for 7 bucks (for the pack of 4), and they won't fall apart if they get wet... and they should fit just fine in the shooting vest pockets...
