Shot Steepocalypse 2017 at Silverdale Gun Club today. My first ever steel.

y home range is Target Sports Canada, an indoor range, where I'm do the club level IDPA event now and then. Today I definitely was out of my comfort zone and shot my first steel challenge match and first time outdoors!. Thanks to the people who set up the courses and officiated, who were great and patient with a newb. Also to my squad mates who contributed some ammo when I ran short. I now know NOT to trust the round estimates from the organisers!

How did I do? About as well as I expected. If I'm not the absolute last, I'll be pleased. Besides inexperience, I was shooting a stock M&P9 against Open and Unlimted guns. It was interesting to see the different rigs and just how many of the guys had sponsorships! Or at least, really colourful shirts.

However, it was a beautiful day, better than forecast. I had fun and didn't totally embarass myself. Everybody was friendly and helpful and I got a lot of coaching and tips. I even started shooting better by the last stage and managed to almost run the plate rack. Duelling trees are evil, though! I even avoided a DQ, my first time shooting steel. It took me 2 tries to get through the courses of fire for IDPA.

So definitely, I'll do it again and will try to get out to Silverdale (a 90 minute drive from downtown Toronto) a few times over the summer.

I came last! Yay! By less than a second though (.42 seconds). There were 55 competitors.

Yes, I also would like to Thank TDSA for this great event. All the guys running the shoot were very friendly and helpful. I even made a small mistake and they did not yell and jump all over me.
I had a BLAST. I don't own a handgun yet and borrowed my friends Glock.
@Nugunner If you came last that means I am second last. LOL. I would not believe you could get tired at this, but it showed in one stage I think I hit only 2 targets in 30 seconds. Maybe it was the Sun, Yea,,, that's it.
But for my first shoot, Met some great people, Everybody helping each other out loading mags for each other, getting great tips on how to shoot better, and just plain shooting. Could not have been a better day.
I am HOOKED.
 
It looked fun. I was relegated to spectating due to a gimp foot. My buddy did well for a relatively novice shooter though. Hopefully future matches will have more workers and i guarantee the match organizers learned a lot for their first match so i know future ones will run a lot smoother. Good on everyone who was there, both shooters and workers.

Oh... X-Metal targets are amazing.

That's probably the most I've ever shot in a day, something like 260 rounds all together, so yes it was tiring. Not to mention the concentration. It was a really nice day but got pretty hot in the sun. I was standing from 1pm to 6pm.

I even had to accept some ammo from one of my squad mates to get through. Great people there, both competing and officiating!
