Shot Timer recommendations?

I'm thinking about picking one up to gather some actual data to help me get better. I'm probably going to be mainly using this for pistol, on an outdoor range. I don't have too much experience with them, as someone else was usually holding it behind my head! Any thoughts? Pros, Cons, what to look for, what to stay away from, what features are unnecessary, etc?
 
If you like to carry a large brick with lots of buttons and functions, get yourself Pact timer. If you prefer a small and simple one - get CED7000 or DAA Shotmaxx.

You can get by with two modes in your timer - regular shot activated timer (with random start delay option) and "par-time" mode with 0.1 increments.
 
Don't use your iPhone as a timer. A timer gets exposed to all kinds of things like rain and dirt, gets occasionally dropped and generally treated harshly. A good timer is less than $100 and well worth the investment.
 
I am pretty surer you can get the new RU Ready timers with more increments for par time and such.
The Pact is bigger, but you can also use it as part of a chrony system which make it more versatile.
 
CED 7000 most future in small package, but will not last. Get PACT 3, it is very simple to use and will last.
 
I just ordered a Pact club3... will have it next week.. from my research they all have good and bad reviews...none of them stood out with much higher + reviews over the other...
With the little to no practice that I do, I'm not going with the Pact Mark IV that has dual purpose...going separate with club timer for small and convenient to use and RO with..and the Pact 2009 1XP infrared, for my Chrony duties..
If you will be regularly practicing, the MarkIV has couple good features for that purpose, the smaller models don't.
 
I use a Competition Electronics Pocket Pro II. Simple to use lots of features runs off a 9v battery and has a big back lit display.
 
Only problem I have with the CED 7000 is that the display is very hard to read when I'm wearing polarized shooting glasses.
 
CED7000 is good for personal practice. But its internal battery does not last if you are ever called upon to use it for competition day as sometimes happens if a club loses or breaks its timer and borrows yours. Otherwise no complaints with mine.
