I've just bought a Benelli Nova and plan on doing some trap shooting and possibly even do some hunting if time permits.

I've done a bit of trap shooting before with my friend and his little flinger thingy, but the only thing I know about the chokes is what common sense would dictate. Full is the tightest pattern and they get wider from there. How much do they patterns spread from there with the other chokes, and what ranges are "suggested" for the different chokes?

I'm not sure if there is standard ranges for each choke set, but in my experience I do everything with a modified choke. I shoot trap with that and I have no trouble breaking clays consistantly, I also used to use a full choke on my fathers shotgun and again had no trouble. Best be would be to pattern you chokes at different ranges to see what its like. Different ammo can give different results as well.
