Hi there!

These past few years, some of my favourite projects has been to make video logs of some of my shotgun deer hunts. This year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to make another, so here it is, flaws and all:

Hope you enjoy it....I can't wait until next year when I get to take my oldest daughter out for her first deer hunt! If I'm lucky she'll consent to me bringing the camera along and instead of me hogging all the glory (and inevitable criticism), maybe you all will get a glimpse of a young lady's first big game hunt.

Until then we'll set to practicing with both her shotgun as well as her new rifle....can't wait!

Cheers, and thanks for watching,

Brobee

Never been a fan of shot for any big game species........ your video illustrates why......

I loved the video Brobee....... well done as always.....

Great narration, honest perspective from an honourable hunter and a frank and educational breakdown of the events.....

Well done!

Thanks for taking the camera along. As we must use shotguns for deer as well.this load may be a great load for us guys that walk the Bush bumping deer from there beds at very close range.with two balls instead of just one slug I can see the advantages with brush and trees getting between the deer and the gun..thanks for the info

Difficult to tell, but were both projectiles sitting atop one another in the same wad cup with a card between or on either end of a plastic wad? Would also make a decent bear load although one could cast and handload them with WW's or PB to get some expansion....@.690 maybe that's a mute point......Harold

very cool.

we weren't allowed to hunt deer with shotgun until recently, now I think we can use a Slug.. not 100% on buckshot , but ..... I need a Deer Shot gun!!!

The wad is made up of two components....

The first one is pretty much like any heavy plastic wad you would find in a steel shot load with the exception that it has a dished interior bottom which is semi-spherical in shape. It's contour exactly matches the outside diameter of the ball.

The second one is a hard plastic spacer that goes between the balls. It has a semi-spherical depression on either side which cradle/support each projectile and keep them from touching each other. The balls fit freely into the depressions, so as soon as the payload turns perpendicular to the air the balls will separate.

I've thought about pulling some for the wad components and reloading with lead balls, but I could not find a mold to cast 0.625 diameter balls. Agree that it would be kinda moot from an expansion perspective, but think it would be better if the balls had more mass which lead would offer over zinc.

Excellent video Brobee!! Thank you for doing the testing and trials. It helps others make a decision whether this type of hunting can become compatible to their skills and hunting area. Due to my health, I now hunt from a blind, on my own woodland. Being thickly wooded, my shots are 40 to 50 yards maximum. I have tested my shotgun with foster slugs and 00 buckshot (legal in NS) at 40 yards, with very good results. However, I did not get a shot with rifle or shotgun, this year, but was lucky enough to harvest my first ever deer with crossbow, on the third last day of the season.

Was the ball dia .690" as molds are available in this size and if not can be cut any size wanted? Harold

Crossbow deer - SWEET!

The hog-wild balls are about 0.625"...would have to get a mold cut, I'm not sure where to have that done....:(

Isn't buckshot illegal for big game hunting in some jurisdictions? For example, Alberta hunting regulations state -

"It is unlawful to -

...use...a firearm that is capable of firing more than one bullet during one pressure of the trigger...
"

I belive that refers to firing more then one shot with each pull of the trigger .not the number of balls in each she'll
