Being a guy who started with mil-surp rifles, I didn't feel comfortable with the bead sights on a shotgun.
I bought a pardus semi that needed some work, and learned a lot in the process of getting it to work reliably.
But I still through I'd be more comfortable with a more rifle-like sighting system, so I purchased a tac'd up shotgun with a ghost ring rear and a red fibre front thinking it would be more comfortable.
But, trying it out, I don't feel more comfortable with it.
Sighting along the rib to the bead on the pardus is pleasingly natural, and the accuracy is good enough that slugs at 25m go where I'd want them to. And the lack of sticky-uppies on the top makes for a smaller handier package.
But I don't know how much of the difference is from the sighting, and how much of the difference it is from the fit of the two shotguns to me.
I'm thinking about trying an adjustable M4 style stock, and seeing if monkeying with the pull/cheek can make the new one feel just as comfortable. But that's more $, and the extra weight and protrusions will still be there.
Intended application is deer in the woods with sighting distances of 30m.

Enlighten me. Should I be mentally taking the "External ballistics limit engagement range so much that even basic rifle sights are not worth the weight/bulk." approach? Or should I be trying to make them work? Or is this a "You're not holding the thing right." issue?
