Anyone have any background info on a JC Higgins Model 20, 12 gauge pump. It has very large outside changeable choke tubes.

Mossberg used to make them like that for their bolt action shotguns, and they did make some bolt guns under the JC Higgins name. Not sure if they ever put them on a pump action though. The ones I have have 3 knurled bands around the threaded portion, with the guage and choke stamped between the second and third band, then a smooth tapered section that forms the choke. Does that sound like what you have?

The J. C. Higgins Model 20 was manufactured for Sears Roebuck by High Standard, and is the same gun as the High Standard Model 200.

That is the gun. This one is very clean and shot very little. Only have one tube with it though.

I am thinking it is not worth much, so i may cut the big choke off of it and put some sights on it for a play around deer gun.

Suprisingly, the action is very smooth and the gun appears very well built.

Thanks for the info.

Please do not saw off the Powerpack choke. While the gun is not terribly valuable, it is somewhat rare, and the Powerpack choke is the most interesting part. Find a collector who wants it, and buy an 870 for deer.
