Just got back from a gunshop near me, was helping him change some barrles on some norinco shotguns.
We noticed one one gun we worked on that the mag followers was split in 1/2!!!
We figgered we better check on the other 8 guns we planed to work on.
Sure enough 5 more had defective mag followers, looks like i better get busy making the mag followers S&J hardware had planed to make.
You guys should check your 870 knock offs see how the mag followers is doing.
I will post some pics of the defective ones later tonight.

Yup, mine sat unused for 6 months, and when I pulled it out, the follower puked out in 6 pieces.

It's definately a part the owners want to swap out ASAP.

I swapped all 5 of mine out for the Hans Vang follower before I fired a shot out of the them (except for my 870 Turkey Express that I've had for about 20 years - that certainly got fired a lot first!!!)...

I don't have the Norinco, but the follower in my Wingmaster is so worn it's starting t stick when empty. If you guys know where I can get a new one (preferably metal), let me know. Thanks

The problem is due to the type of polycarbonate they make the magazine followers from.

It reacts with the oils used to ship/store the firearms. This was an issue when companies first started using plastic magazines. Failure never occured until a period of time after the mags first got "wet".

Changed the polycarbontate they used to make the mags and the problem disappeared. I suspect the the material is more expensive than that being currently used.

It was the first thing I swapped out.

I didn't like the stock one that came with my DA Grizzly, as it looked and felt cheap, so I replaced it with an aluminum one from Brownells. Looks like that was a good idea. The less plastic in a shotgun, the better.

My norinco hp9 follower is still holding up, but it makes sense that it will, eventually, become a problem.

Plastics deteriorate when exposed to polar solvents or oils.

Oh well, I'll wait for it to start showing signs before ordering a new one. How much are the followers, anyway?
