Hi everyone: I have an old Higgins / Hi-Standard shotgun that has a ding in the mag tube so the follower no longer moves smoothly through the tube.

I can't get a new tube anymore in Canada, and Numrich won't ship one to the frozen north.

It's a nice gun otherwise, and the action falls open with that old fashioned Hi-Standard authority.

Any ideas of what kind of shop might be able to roll the ding out of the mag tube? I literally don't know the kind of shop I'm looking for.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm in Calgary, if that matters.

A shaft or pipe that is just right sized - with no taper - just rounded a tiny bit on the end - it isn't a matter of driving it through, but just slide it in until it is tight under the leading edge of the dent, then tap with a smooth faced hammer around the dent edges where the shaft is tight. The taps should be very very light, and a thousand of them. You don't want to try bringing the whole dent up at once, just the edge that the shaft is stuck at. The shaft will soon be loose and can be advanced under the dent until the dent is gone and the follower slides freely.

If you try to drive a punch through the tube, you may damage ends or threads depending on how bad the dent is.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I'll try the socket and "dew the tap tap tap thingy."

I'm continually amazed at the expertise / good old fashioned wisdom around here.
