I'll reference Leupold as that's what I have the most experience with. Shotgun scopes are set for parallax at 75 yds rather than 100, have thicker reticles, less magnification and the coatings on the lenses are not as good as other scopes in their line. Personally, I really like a thicker reticle, it stands out in thick bush MUCH better. Both are very, very durable. In very early morning / late evening the better optics really help and that's what you really pay for in a scope. Better glass and better lens coatings cost $$$. For the $, if you're shooting in thick bush, or under 200, the Shotgun scope is very good value plus the thick reticle really pays off. Best of luck with your choice.
