Shotgun Option 3 loaders

Ha, I was just thinking about Option 3 loaders the other day.

I have the Magload but still haven't even taken it out of the bag yet. I purchased it directly from them (was part of another bigger order).

I shoot as many matches as I can and train regularly but I have never encountered a match with an Option 3 (have seen Option 1 and Option 2, heck I just shot two matches and all starts were Option 1, I also have two more next month and pretty sure they are all Option 1 too).

I need to try the Option 3 but haven't got around to it yet.

For the match saver I have the Briley on one gun (A400 which has the same Briley hand guard as the 1301) and Matchsaverz on the other (both came from Tacord). My personal preference is to have them parallel with the loading port, positioned so that the rear of the shell can be held in line with the front of the ejection port and as low / close to the hand guard as possible (which is generally the way all are mounted except the Briley which is on an M-Lok mounting plate which holds it out more but I removed mine and fixed it a different way to get it closer and be more like what I was used to).

I will have my guns out today, will take a pic or two and post later.

Cannot comment on how it works (imagine it would hold the round for loading off the start with no issues) but I do wonder if it would cause ejection issues (probably not).

The second version is spring loaded and falls flat after the round is initially loaded so you would barely even know it is there (this is what I have):

So I just purchased the second one for the 1301... seems fine but very very difficult to open and it does not open all the way as it forms a wedge if you will. seems to hold the shell fine. the first one I have on my nova speed and it functions great. however I like the velcro but I just know that I will lose is eventually.

Hmmm, interesting.

Maybe it is time I checked mine. Will have a look today and report back. Will grab some pics from the Matchsaverz mounting location too (forgot yesterday).

Regarding the Matchsaverz, I have one on my M4 )which wasn't mounted by me) which it is further forward than where I described and I don't like it, doesn't feel natural and moving it that much is inefficient for me.

As mentioned previously I like them parallel with the barrel and located so the rear of the shell can be level with the front of the ejection port. YMMV due to personal preference but you get the idea.

Option 3 starts is something you will see in most lvl3’s and most decent sized lvl2’s here in Ontario will have one as well
The Quebec lvl3 this past weekend had 2 of them in it.
The king competition one is slimmer than both of the magload options, I have ran one for probably the last 6 years with good results
Range Junkie sells them

You can load the gun normally without it.
You will see some guys use there match saver with the bolt locked back and you’ll see other guys use option 3 loader.
With a 3” gun the fastest way to get 8 rounds in the gun is just load 4 rounds, rack it and then put your other 4 rounds in whenever you need them whether that’s right away or after your first target array.

3" gun with 8 rounds loaded would mean one in the barrel, 6 in the mag and a ghost load on the lifter (which is kinda slow).

Or did you mean 3.5" gun?

No I meant 3” gun. Look up Sammi spec rounds, do the math and plug your gun accordingly

I have already looked at this and the numbers are (in my opinion) on the legal side but there are others who would disagree (most notably the Range Master at one of the IPSC shotgun I did and very possibly the RCMP).

I also asked Tacord about this as I considered buying a 3" and they would not plug it beyond 8 max.

But each to their own.

I would say the best answer to that would be the shortest 3" rounds available and size it for 5.9 of those because the bigger issue is if the law (for whatever reason - unlikely I know but not impossible) could jam 6 in there.
