hey i have a benelli super black eagle 2 and i do a lot of duck hunting and would like to get my barrel ported to reduce recoil and muzzle climb. Now my concern is that i don't want my barrel to be drilled I want it to be done by EDM electrical discharge machine. I know magna porting does this but is located in the states and i would rather get it done in canada. Does anyone know where i can get my barrel EDM'd in canada??? thanks

I have a few sporting clays guns that are ported, and I find that the effect on recoil is minimal at best. The porting seems to very slightly reduce muzzle climb, but it also increases the noise to the shooter. If your main reason for wanting to port the gun is to reduce recoil, the best way to reduce recoil is to use a gas operated gun.

nope i am looking to reduce muzzle climb but also recoil. i have shot both and there is a difference may it be minor or not. i am just looking for the job to be done right, just not sure if any place in canada offers this service.

My trap gun is ported- that's how it came and I'd rather it wasn't. It recoils less because it is a heavy SOB and I shoot light target loads. Porting just makes the barrel harder to clean and louder for your shooting buddies. A gas gun will shoot softer. I would not be able to tell the difference and I would never consider spending money to have a barrel ported.

The difference between my WingmasterTB with the ported , back bored, relieved forcing cone barrel and my unported, factory WingmasterTB is so minimal it would not be worth doing if I hadn't bought the gun like that.
personally wouldn't waste the money.

The most cost effective way to reduce recoil and muzzle rise on a SBE/SBE2 is to sell it and buy a Winchester SX3...and you'll even put enough money in your pocket to pay for a seasons worth of ammo! It's a win win situation! :)

I shoot an average 14000rds a years...I agree with Cat...the extras barely make a difference and aren't worth the dollars spent!

In addition to the other comments, I wouldn't say that EDM is the only 'right' way to do it.

The rest of your gun was made on a milling machine. No reason you couldn't have it ported that way. The sinker will be more expensive and take a lot longer.

I already have an sx3 that I bought for my gf. It's not like I haven't shot ported and unported guns. Not looking for suggestions just looking for a place in Canada that does EDM porting. Why cause it's chrome lined barrel and I don't want stress fractures or burrs. Not looking for why I shouldn't get it ported.

If your using it for duck hunting, take this advise unless you like to hunt alone, the extra noise and making hunting buddies mad isnt worth the effort. Ive got a mossburg 500 that is ported factory, kinda wish it wasnt. Reduce recoil by getting a heavier gun, lighter loads or a good quality $$$$$ semi-auto, the porting doesnt help muzzle rise much ive found, good grip and stance is key. Also normally with a field gun there is a vent rib, so when you point at a target, you actually dont use the bead exactly, its the barrel that covers where you will hit.

Not for a hunting gun!! Your partners will wrap that barrel around your neck and strangle you with it after they finish suing you for the permanent ringing in their ears unless you guys are the few wearing ear muffs or plugs? Heavy field loads + ported muzzles = DEAF!!

are you kidding me?! this is almost 50% of the reason i want to get this done LOL how many times has yours friends muzzle come swinging close to you ear and rang your bell? It has happened to me by my best of friends and favorite hunting partners. I want the loudest gun to pay them back

I hate to jump on the band wagon but I believe the research that was done by some of the members of shotgunworld showed that porting reduced recoil by a maximum of 5% and made the gun substantially louder. I don't think your friends nor any passersby will appreciate it. There is a quote from the owner of Carlson which states that porting of the chokes is a marketing gimmick for sales but I can't find it right now. I don't recommend causing your hunting partners hearing damage as payback either.

If you want to actually reduce recoil, the forend cap weights and stock weights do reduce recoil. Graco and Briley are examples of manufacturers of these weights.

And at this point, it is very obvious that there is no point trying to reason with this person.

None and 98% of my hunting is done out of a canoe with 1 or 2 other people besides me.
