I am a newbie at this and since my shotgun will arrive whenever Wholesale feels like it I have been looking into ammo.
I was doing a comparison between buying 12 gauge 3.75 shell 00 buckshot 9 pellet count and reloading it from scratch. Was using the Russell's catalogue since everything is easy to access. Also keep in mind I don't have a book and was using the Hodgdon online tool.
This is all for 1000 count:
New:
Remington Express Buckshot 4.99 per 5 = 998.00 per 1000
Winchester Buckshot 4.49 per 5 = 898.00 per 1000
Reload mats:
Hodgdon HS-6 Powder 23.99 per 1lb = 119.95 for 5lbs
(7000grains per 1lb / 30grain per shell = ~230 shell per 1lb)
Winchester AA Once Fired 84.99 per 1000 = 84.99
(closest thing I can see that was listed on the Hodgdon tool)
Winchester WAA12 Wads 28.99 per 1000 = 28.99
CCI Shotshell Primer 44.99 per 1000 = 44.99
Hormandy #00 buckshot 19.99 per 5lbs = 279.86 per 14bags
(Hope this calculation is correct, 1 #00 shot = 3.49 gram 9 per shell will give about 72 shells per 5lb bag)
So the total for the reload mats is 558.78.
Also I never included the prices for taxes (0.05) nor prices for shipping. I also did not include the price for the shell press or time. Time is money for some people but my time is worthless.
Any comments about any errors would be greatly appreciated.
