Hey first post, sweet forum by the way. I was thinking of a Mossberg Maverick 88 or a Moss. 500 ($$'s are good) and get or make a tactical out of it for a fun gun. I understand that you can interchangeable barrels as I want a slug gun as well. Is it wise to get a "fun" gun like the models above and use it for slugs as well or get a another shotgun that's dedicated for slugs/hunting? Havn't used any kind of interchange gun before. I already have a fixed full choke shotgun but I'm really liking the pistol grip style just for fun sake on the yard.

There are a lot of good shotguns out there for a little more than a Maverick.
Personally, I'd steer clear of the Mavericks, they are pretty much the bottom of the barrel. They might work great, but they look and feel cheap. A few more bucks will get you a far better gun. Get the 500 or a Rem 870. Both have lots of aftermarket and factory parts (slug barrels, chokes, stocks etc.) to make the shotgun meet your needs. Check out the packages offered as well. I know Remington has the express combo, which comes with a deer slug barrel, and a smoothbore. I think Mossberg offers a combo or 2 as well.

if you like to build stuff, take a look at a Remington 870, or perhaps a Chinese copy of one. there are more aftermarket parts and accessories out there then you'll know what to do with. good gun and you can pick one up in the equipment exchange for cheap. (you have to register for access)
I have an old 870 Wingmaster I picked up for 400$. Absolutly perfect in every way, from the shiney blueing to the perfect 18inch factory barrel. In my mind, this cant be beat (even came with a mag extension and top folding choate metal stock - indeed a "tacticool" wingmaster). Although it is a smoothbore shotgun, I have no problem hitting standard targets at 100m with decent rifled slugs. It also handels any shot load fine, and I have NEVER had any failure in any way with this gun, with a few hundred rounds that I have put through it. If you can find a good deal, snatch up any model of 870, cant be beat, and in a while if you decide to go tactical, you can dress it up, or the other way round, you can easily convert to a nice hunting shotgun.
For future you can start a new thread,less confusion when the topics are different.
You can add screw-in choke tubes if the barrel walls are thick enough,a gunsmith will be able to tell you.
As for the OP you can not go wrong with an 870 there are good deals on older wingmasters if you look around.
