Many of us new to shotguns may at times wonder i.e. in what manner the stock of a shotgun is measured.

Here is a bird's eye view (pun intended) in terms of how that is achieved regardless of the stock type as well as the action type of a shotgun......needless to mention, I grabbed the following images off the web.

3) Trigger Pull = LOP (Length of Pull)

"Cast-Off" means the stock bent to the right (measurement may also vary in this case) to appropriately fit a righthanded shooter - "Cast-On" could simply be considered as the opposite version. Another configuration may be where the stock is cast as "Neutral" i.e. neither right nor left (as generally evident on Browning shotguns, for example).

Unlike rifles (where stock measurements also come into play to an extent) - such measurements, particularly in the instance of a smoothbore shotgun, will heavily influence the factors and performance in terms of an individual's ability to consistently shoot to point of aim. Therefore, some understanding, even at a high level could be a great assist when considering/handling a shotgun with ownership possiblities in mind.

Can't stress enough on fit. I went from a mediocre shooter knocking one bird down per flock to double and triple, shooting out in 15 mins just from getting the stock fitted.

Oh so important, great post AA.

Alain Combes IS the guy to contact for proper stock fitting. He have European knowledge and style.

I personally wouldn"t bring a valuable shotgun at Dante for this.

Mr. Hiptmayer can chose his jobs, he deserves it. Because of this the delays are quite long and he most of the times, refuses the jobs.
