I just finished my PAL/Hunting/turkey course on the weekend. Been wanting to get my papers for quite a few years now and finally the dates lined up. I'm thinking a good place to start might be turkeys and ducks. Can anyone suggest a good all around shotgun and maybe what it might be worth?

You should go down to the hunting shotguns portion of this site. TONS of info there.

I would start with a Browning Pump Shotgun (BPS). It will cost you $7-800 new but you wont ever really have a reason to buy another shotgun. They are built exceptionally well, and thrice the gun of the cheaper budget options you will read about (Rem 870 Express, Mossberg 500 etc)

that's a ford or chevy question lol but i'm cheap so I got mossburg 535 3 barrel combo think they around 500 now good for ducks turkey or deer and eats all 3 sizes of shells if you were near me I would let ya try it at the range

I own a SX3 in 20ga that I love but it's pricey. If I was going to buy a pump right now, I'd get a Browning BPS, Winchester SXP, Ithaca M37 or 870 Wingmaster. Most of those can be picked up for a decent price used. If those are a bit out of your range, then a Remington model 870 or Mossberg 500 or 535 in a 3-barrel combo. Those can be had new for $400-500.

EDIT: Just get the BPS if it fits you... they are $610 at Epps and around $550 at Sail.

Every hunter needs a shotgun they can beat up in the duck blind, bang around in a boat, drag through the dirt of a turkey field, and you cant go wrong with a 500 or 870, 500 is a little lighter weight but both can take abuse. If you have a bigger budget then look at Benelli SBE, M2 or Beretta AL391.

I originally bought a rem 870 supermag express combo. I then saw a benelli vinci on the ontario outdoors site that was 10 months old and priced to sell and was in like new condition. Try there also!

I'd handle a Mossberg 500, (or 535), and a Remington 870, find which one I like best and buy a combo with multiple barrels. Keep in mind that the mossberg will usually be more affordable than the Remington.

Benelli Nove, 3.5" chamber does everything.

+2

I just got my hunting license and PAL last year. I found this to be the best looking and feeling shotgun and not overly expensive at $500 new.
I can use it for hunting and trap and sell it easily when the i have enough saved up to buy a semi Benelli/Beretta:)
Only problem I found was that the butt pad is had as concrete so U might want to get a limbsaver as well.

A Browning BPS is very well made and will do the job, author than that Benelli Nova.
If you want to spend less $$ , you will have to go with Mossberg or Remington 870 Express, Mossberg have several barrel combo options.
