Shotgun Targets?

I finally got out to test drive my 18.5" 870 and have some fun with it. For targets I used 8" paper plates stapled to pieces of wooden lath to avoid destroying any back boards or target frames. They worked pretty well and I will definitely be using them in the future, but I need more variety.

What other targets do people use for practicing 3-gun stages or IPSC style stages? This is at a range, so I can't use the more entertaining reactive targets like milk jugs or watermelons.

If you can find any local speed-clay shoots, those are great venues to practice high-speed manipulation of your shotgun.

The ranges I use are slug-only, so no shotshell practice for me.

we use the steel plates as well...just spray them with some paint in between shoots and they will show your hits well...and the noise provides instant feedback

For close range fun I use my homemade wooden stand and hang a windshield wash container. The kids love it!

See if your range will let you get a picture of a zombie and print it on 3ft by 2.5ft sheet of paper. Certain ranges (DVC Vancouver) will let you use them. There more fun to shoot.

If your range will allow you bowling pins work great?

Bowling alley's throw out old bowling pins, all you have to do is ask!

My range has OSB back boards for target holders and I am trying to avoid blowing huge holes in them like so many before me have done. The zombie targets are OK, though.

I am trying to set up more of an IPSC or IDPA style stage, with multiple targets and movement between stations. My range does not allow anything but steel (with range restrictions) and paper targets. No water jugs, bowling pins or other interesting stuff is allowed.
