I don't know if anyone uses a wad punch to make their own wads, I know wads are cheap to buy, but I live in a town 2 ferries away from Vancouver, no such thing as loading supplies here, so being able to make my own is great. I bought a punch for 410 gauge from TATV Canada, I just spent 45 minutes punching out cardboard, 1/8" cork and 1/4" cork, did approximately 150 of each. Mounts in press, easy to use, no setup, screw into press and punch away. Anyway I liked it enough that I just ordered one in 12 gauge.

Thanks for posting your experience with the TATV wad cutter. Pricey stuff on their website, but they look to be quality tools.

I punch my own overshot cards for the 28 gauge, as my hull/wad combination leaves crimps that don't always seal 100%. I use a punch from Acklands, and it takes me about 20 minutes to make about 450 cards from a typical pizza box from the premade frozen pizzas. I even use primer boxes and sleeves, and they work fine for my purpose.

Wad material can be found for punching your own. The neighbor bought a drier and washing machine, came with protective solid cardboard corners almost a 1/4” thick. Building supply places sell Ramboard. Rolls of heavy cardboard for protecting floors during renovations. It’s about double the thickness of a pizza box. Felt wads for shotguns I cut from felt insoles. I like cutting my own as around here you have to order them and sometimes it can take awhile to arrive. I have actually enlarged some of the Princess Auto punches to get the correct size.
