Anyone have any experience with a Benelli SuperSport. I already have a SuperBlack Eagle II for hunting and love it but the Super sport is such a beautiful shotgun I dont think I could ever take it into the field.

Anyone have any experience with a Benelli SuperSport for trap or skeet shooting. I picked one up one that is less then a year old on a trade - its gorgeous and the balance is amazing. Now I just have to find a place to shoot skeet/trap in the Peterborough area.... or else Ill have to put it up for sale.( I already have a SuperBlack Eagle II for hunting and love it but the Super sport is such a beautiful shotgun I dont think I could ever take it into the field.
I shot a few hundred targets with a Benelli Cordoba which is the same gun but without the shiny finish. I liked it and would probably own it or the SuperSport except for the fact I have a Beretta 391 that I like better. The Beretta is a little better with lighter shells and felt recoil was a little lighter. But if you have an SBE the SuperSport would be a great choice to use as clays gun due to the similarities between the two.

The SuperSport/Cordoba might not be your first choice for a field gun due to the barrel porting which makes the gun louder.

I love mine, have a 12 and a 20, I shoot 5 stand, skeet with them all the time. The 20 is my go to small water duck gun. The only thing I will say against it is when I switch back to my sbe it feels like I am swinging a fence post.

yup - The SBE is a fence post in comparison... although Its a mighty fine handy dandy fence post, if I do say so myself. Well Im glad Im not the only one who fell in love with their supersport ... although my wife still refuses to let me bring it to bed ... I told her I sleep better and have great dreams when holding her ... the Benelli ... which may be the source of the problem LOL

[/IMG]sbe is handy, fits me well out of the box, when on big water or if the geese are not finishing I would not be without one. I put briley bolt release and bolt handle on my supersports, they will make a dove hunt one of these days in argentina. the 20 got me three duck bands this fall.

I ran a few hundred rounds through a Cordoba at Skeet, 5 Stand and a round of Sporting.
I liked the gun ... it shot very well but I'm a fancy walnut freak - and can't abide porting - fellow competitors & blind companions hate it too !.
Besides a DT-10, I already had a couple of 391 Parallel Targets, one with upgraded wood from Coles, so the Cordoba didn't make the cut.

I have a Super Sport. I don't hunt, just use use it for shooting Clays. I did have some concerns when buying about the possibility of cycling issues but have used a few different types of target loads in it and never had a problem.

I shoot alot of skeet so I've seen a bunch of different guns used by my buddies. I have never seen the benelli's fail with factory 3 dram cycle loads. I also have never seen them work a whole round of skeet with light reloads. I wouldn't buy one, as i only shoot 7/8 oz 12 ga and 3/4 oz 20 ga reloads. I find benelli semi's overpriced and ammo sensitive. I have seen some not cycle 2 and 3/4 dram factory target loads.I have browning auto 5's,winchester model 59 and a sx-2. I also shoot a beretta 391 20 ga.

I run 7/8ths loads all the time, had trouble with it until I started oiling a lot. Used to think cold weather should be very little oil, to prevent gumming up, this is not the case. When hunting I give it a quick clean every flat. My beretta will go 4 times as long, but a cleaning every 250 rounds is not that bad.

You can shoot trap Wed's and Sundays at the Peterborough Skeet and Trap Club. Wed at 1:00pm in winter, and Sundays at 11:00 year round.
Just between Ptbo and Bridgenorth off the 5th line of smith.

I own a Sport II which is the wood version and I love it. Balances wonderfully, much more lively than any other semi I've handled. Mine has cycled everything with 100% reliability including 7/8 managed recoil loads. I have only done one extremely thorough cleaning and usually just wipe it down after each range trip. My go to skeet/sporting clays load are Challenger 1oz in 8 or 9 @ 1200fps. Benelli's are over priced but so are most of the semis on the market and for the same money a nice piece of walnut trumps fake carbon fiber injected moulded plastic anyway, but your opinion may vary.

Have at it,

Patrick
